Once in a Blue Moon...

Tonight is a Blue Moon.  Although the older definition of a Blue Moon is the third full moon in a season of four full moons, the modern definition is a second full moon in a single month.  Since the full moon occurs every 29 days, it's very rare to have a Blue Moon.  The expression "once in a blue moon" predates the modern definition of the phenomenon, but since our next Blue Moon isn't scheduled until July of 2015, it's a very special event.

Earlier this month was the tail-end of Mercury Retrograde, a time that astrologically can mean failures of communication.  We are discouraged from starting new projects during Mercury Retrograde, and encouraged to instead finish old ones.  Now, at the end of the same month, we have a Blue Moon...a rare experience.

So why not take advantage of the full moon tonight to start something new?  Whether this may be a resolution, a new home project, a new creative endeavor...whatever has been on your mind.  This second full moon only comes around...well...once in a blue moon.  So why not do something yourself as well that you hardly thought you could do?

And don't forget to say Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit tomorrow morning for the first of the month!  Rabbits and hares are traditionally associated with the moon, so this could be an especially potent one, folklorically-speaking!

And stay tuned tomorrow for more about hares and rabbits...

  2. I enjoyed this, when I was a little girl we were expected to say "white rabbits, white rabbits".
